The Halloween party and getting all Pinteresty

We hosted a Halloween party for the girls and a few of their friends Saturday afternoon.  The party was Rich's idea, just something he thought would be fun for the kids.  Although we called it a party, it was really an organized play date with the kids dressed in their Halloween costumes.

So what does one do at a Halloween party for 9 first grade girls?

  • Decorate your own paper pumpkin (big hit)
  • Make your own salt dough creation (big hit once we added enough flour to get rid of the stickiness)
  • Run around outside (big hit)
  • Eat a snack (always a big hit)
  • Guess what's in the bowl by touch (so-so, the runny jello received the most aaaaaahs)
  • Costume runway with winners such as Funniest Costume (not really a good idea even though everyone was a winner and they all received the same prize)
  • Duck, duck, goose (the kids' idea and a BIG hit)

I decided to do some Halloween decorating and yes, these are both super trendy right now.  Or maybe they're not and I'm just late to the party.

It is double-sided.  After experimenting, I ended up using an overlapping zig-zag stitch.

I just love how you captured the girls' happiness through those pictures!

The decorations are adorable. I remember you saying before that you had a Brother sewing machine. What model is it and does it work well?

Thanks!

Kathleen - I do have a Brother sewing machine. I bought it in 2005, I think. According to the manual, it's an NX-200. It's okay for what I do. It doesn't like anything thick and definitely isn't as sturdy as an old machine. Also, the tension is overly sensitive. I grew up sewing on a machine from the '60s and '70s. They don't make things like they used to.
