Nauset Light Beach + Monomoy

8.27b

Last week was quite a social week for us.  After helping out my parents on Tuesday, the girls and I headed down to the Cape because we had family visiting from out of state staying down there for the week.  We also had local family renting a place near us so there were quite a few cousins for the girls to hang out with.  Some of these cousins we are only able to visit with once, maybe twice a year.  After an ice cream meet-up Tuesday night, we hung out at the beach on Wednesday for a couple of hours and then the girls babysat (with me there) two of their 5 year old cousins in the afternoon.

Rich joined us Wednesday night and we decided to head to Nauset Light Beach on Thursday morning.  This beach is part of the Cape Cod National Seashore and is frequented by sharks.

Check out that water temperature.  The girls actually went in a little bit to cool off.  I went in up to my shins which left my feet numb in a matter of seconds.

Erosion.  After years of having the stairs to the beach washed away during winter storms, a new (long) pathway through the dunes was constructed this past year.

This home sadly will eventually reach the end of its life when the dune erodes.

Rich versus seal.  Rich jokingly stated that every time he went in for a dip, a seal would pop up and ruin it.  (You don't want to swim near seals because a shark hunting seals may mistake you for food.)

And then this happened.  It's actually an ocean sun fish and not a shark, but it did fool us at first.

Later that afternoon, we played tourist and went for a scenic/seal boat ride.  I have a ton of photos from that so it will have to be its own post.

On Friday, we had friends come down to visit for the day.  Their daughter has been Emily's BFF since kindergarten.  We headed to Chatham to check out the Monomoy Wildlife Refuge.  (You can check out my Monomoy photos from 2017 here.)   Afterwards, we walked around Main Street in Chatham before heading to dinner and then mini golf, where I tied for first place.  By the way, Chatham's Candy Manor has some super delicious fudge.

Silly question. Your 7th picture that looks like red grapes,by chance do you know what type of plant that is? We saw the same type of plant along the shore in Florida,we asked but nobody knew.
Thanks🙂

I'm pretty sure those are beach rose hips. They are supposed to be edible.
