Monomoy + Shades of Gray

I have a whole bunch of photos to share with you tonight from our mini vacation right before school started.  With these, I'm finally (mostly) caught up.  We spent most of the week before school started and Labor Day weekend at our cottage on Cape Cod.  Because the weather wasn't ideal for long beach days and crowds were lower, we decided to explore.

Monomoy Island off of Chatham is a unique place, similar to a very large sandbar.  Over the years, storms have moved sand around so that it sometimes connects to the mainland.  No one lives there (now), aside from seals and other wildlife, and it's only accessible by boat or kayak.  One afternoon, we visited the Monomoy National Wildlife Refugee, located on Morris Island.  This place was so incredibly beautiful.  There's a "trail" but most of it is on a beach, which we weren't expecting.

Tips for visiting - Go at low tide, otherwise there is no beach to walk on.  If you have little ones, the visitors center has backpacks you can borrow with cards identifying wildlife you'll see and nets.

Now for the complete opposite of that blue sky.  We did have one rainy day, but it wasn't a complete washout.  After the rain slowed down, we headed to Nauset, Coast Guard and Nauset Light Beaches for some fresh, salt air.

Oh my goodness! I LOVE the portrait of Anna and the black and white portrait (Emily?)!

It's so fun to learn and see the Cape through all your excursions. I never realized how big it was until I was talking to one of my coworkers about one of your posts (she grew up on the Cape and her dad still lives there).
