The Looong Weekend
Rich's family has, I guess what you would call, a tradition of celebrating birthdays on the tens (30, 40, 50, 60, etc.) After much debate (restaurant? house party? catered?), we ultimately decided to host a cookout/pool party for Rich, who hit the big one a few weeks ago. Yeah, so the "we" included Rich because this wasn't even on my radar. Hon, I apologize for being a terrible party planner. I promise the next one will be fabulous. I've already started planning. It's going to be a destination party and you won't have to cook any burgers! If one can have a destination wedding, one can have a destination party.
We spent all day Saturday and Sunday morning preparing for the cookout. Rich uncovered the pool last weekend and it was finally ready for swimming Saturday afternoon. The girls were beyond excited to jump in. Especially because it was 90 degrees out. It cooled down for Sunday and we had perfect weather for the cookout, which was a success. Except for the uncooperative grill. Unfortunately, a storm moved up here late on Sunday and it poured rain, forcing many towns to cancel their Memorial Day parades and ceremonies.
I attempted to cram in all the laundry yesterday but then I just didn't want to deal with it any longer. We did venture out after the rain ended to purchase some flowers for the window boxes and Abigail's headstone. It always feels like we are late to plant but the weather around here hasn't been very warm. We also picked up a patio tomato plant, which produces some of the tastiest tomatoes. I can't wait to add those to our meals.
This week is going to be a weird one for me. Lots of mixed emotions. . .
