Sewing and sharing
This latest sewing project was for my niece's daughter, who is a twin. Her sister was assigned to us for the family Christmas grab and her present included a very similar skirt I made the day of the family Christmas party. I then promised to sew one for her twin because, you know, I have a little bit of experience with multiples.
I never fully liked how I finished off the waistband in my twirl skirt tutorial for a few reasons. It took a bit of finagling and patience to neatly sew the casing closed after the elastic was inserted. Also, and this was the bigger reason, if you need to shorten or lengthen that elastic after you've finished off the casing, it was time consuming and a hassle to open it back up. Why would you need to change the elastic size? If you sew a skirt for a gift, you may not know the exact waist size and have to alter it after gifting has occurred. I've also found, on my girls, that heavier skirts need smaller waistbands to keep the skirts from sliding down. So even though I've measured their waists and made adjustments, I sometimes have to make additional alterations. I obviously attempt a final try-on before I sew up that casing but sometimes kids aren't home or they are sleeping, etc.
I've been using my new and improved casing method for about two years now and and it is so much more convenient. Here's what the inside of the skirt looks like.
It looks almost exactly the same as my previous version but for that center seam in the casing is now open. For this next photo, I've pulled up the elastic so you can see how easy it is to access it.
The thought process for Disney Customs 2016 has begun. The girls will obviously have a creative say in helping me with designs. I have a good idea of what I'm looking at - some princess themed and Mickey/Minnie outfits. The girls are at an age where they will wear certain clothes at Disney but would not even consider wearing those same clothes to school. (What happens at Disney . . . ) I did come home the other night to find Anna wearing this dress. Even though it somewhat fit, it's ready for retirement. Before Sewing Season can begin, Family & Friends Tax season needs to end. I haven't even pulled out the folder with all of our tax documents. I'm more efficient under pressure. Yeah, that's it.

It's great to see a sewing post again.
I'm just catching up on your posts and wish I read this a few nights ago ;) I used your pattern to sew two more (hungry caterpillar) twirl skirts. I have the same problem with having to adjust the waist band because I always sew while my girls are sleeping :)
