Ah... the scent of fresh pine.

My wish finally came true this year and, last weekend, we visited a Christmas tree farm for the first time. I have to tell you that the experience was so much more pleasant than pulling over to the side of the road and patiently waiting in the van with the girls while Rich combed through the 'support Boy Scouts' lot the size of a postage stamp in search of a tree. (Not that there is anything wrong with supporting Boy Scouts.)

Unfortunately (or not so unfortunately for Rich), it was a bit late in the season and most of the substantial trees had already been cut down so we ended up purchasing a tree that had been cut five days earlier at a farm in western Massachusetts. We were told that pre-cut trees at tree stands were mostly cut in September.

Fun! If you want a live tree around here, you go out in the late summer/early fall and "tag" the tree on the farm. Then you just go cut it when you want!

Those first pics in the sleigh are precious!!!
Interesting to know that most of the trees at stands are cut down in September! No wonder they dry up so quickly and loose their needles!

The pictures of the girls in the sleigh just made my Monday morning. After a long weekend with teething 8 month twins, it's nice to know that I have fun stuff like this to look forward to. Thanks!

We put up a real tree every year too... the smell is just divine! I love it! However, the pine needles all over my carpet aren't quite as enjoyable. It's worth it. ;)

Thank you, everyone for your comments!!

Wendy - this place doesn't allow tagging. I don't know if any of the ones around us do or not.

Emsydaisy - this was Indian Rock farm (or something like that - Indian Rock is definitely in the name) in Foxboro. My BIL says that there is another place in Foxboro too - I haven't asked him yet which one is supposed to be better.
