How life changes

Posting happy Story Land photos today, the 1o year anniversary of 9/11, just doesn't feel right. I hope everyone is remembering the innocent and brave people who lost their lives 10 years ago. Maybe we can stop driving like bullies, cutting in lines and acting like jerks. Let's start with one day. We are all human. We are in this together.

Ten years ago, I was working as a Tax Manager for Small Financial Institution. I had been employed there for less than two weeks. I was at work when confusion struck that morning. After the second plane hit in NY, we vacated our building, a high rise in downtown Boston. My story is not unlike many others.

It would be a week before my co-worker and I would learn that Steve Ward, a former co-worker from our public accounting days, had been working at Cantor Fitzgerald in the World Trade Center in NY. He was among the missing.

At one point, Steve and I had sat in cubicles diagonal from each other. Ang sat across from me and the three of us had had some good laughs. I wouldn't call us friends but we were friendly. The news article that appeared in his hometown paper was absolutely heartbreaking. When I think of 9/11, I think of Steve.

Ten years ago, I was single. Fate had not yet brought Rich into my life. I had always wanted children. Always, always, always. But there I was asking, "Do I really want to bring children into this world?" And yet, I have. I hope it wasn't for selfish reasons. I hope that one day, they can make a difference in this world.

So sorry for the loss of a friend. I too was working in a high rise in Houston as Accounting Director, was evacuated after the second tower was hit and was also single. I still worry where the world is heading and fear for my babies future. I sure pray more often and a lot harder than I did before the babies.

Blessing to you all on this sad day of remembrance.
