The difficulty of 3

I promised you all photos for tonight. I lied. I need to just go to bed but I like to keep up with my little blog here because it really is like my journal.

Rich and I both took today off from work. A scheduled vacation day. The girls woke us up at six o'clock this morning and I could tell that it was going to be a rough day for me. We have been experiencing some major regression with the girls' sleep habits since our return from Michigan which has left me (and Rich) feeling a bit burnt out.

We brought the girls to see a play (Snow White!) with Grammy and Papa and then we lunched at Grammy and Papa's house before heading to the beach for an afternoon outing. Thank goodness Grammy and Rich are extremely helpful because I just did not have the energy today. Do you realize all the stuff you have to lug back and forth from the van just for one beach outing? And then showering and dressing three kids! It's a lot of work.

On our way back from the beach, we explained to the girls that it was getting late and that we needed them to cooperate with showering and dressing so that we could squeeze in some more fun. Allie didn't understand why we couldn't just stay at Grammy's house. "Well, Mommy and Daddy have to go to work tomorrow."

Do you want to know what her response to that was? "Can't you just call work and tell them that you are sick?"

Yeah, so I have started watching everything that is said in their presence.

On the way back home, we stopped so that the girls could ride on a carousel and then we had some ice cream for dinner. By the time we hit the road again, it was close to bedtime. The girls did a lot of running on the beach today and they were wiped out. So Emily passed out first. Followed by Allie. And then Anna.

I tried to keep them awake but I had zero energy and fell asleep myself. The problem with them falling asleep like this is that they are an absolute mess when we get home. And tonight, they were an absolute mess. We pulled into our driveway at 7:00 and they all woke up. There was screaming and crying and pleas for "Mommy sleep with me." It took an hour before they were all in their beds asleep.

And now, I am going to bed.

I'm sorry. I hate it when our girls fall asleep in the car. We sing songs, turn on the DVD player, roll the windows down..... Sheesh. Hope tomorrow is a better day.

Do you think it is a summer/travel/fun thing? My kids also haven't been sleeping well but if we stick to our very strict routine they are fine. But that routine is boring! Also, I feel for you - was single parenting it this weekend and dressing, pottying, diapering (for youngest), shoeing, snacking and sunscreening three kids to get out the door?! It's all about the perserverence (and some wine after they go to bed).
