The Great Closet Turnover of 2010

It's that time of the year again. Time for me to remove the too small clothing from the girls' closet and add in all the new items. I think I'll put in all the size 3T stuff including winter items so I don't have to try to go through this again in six months time.

I have learned over the past two years that this is a huge project that cannot be completed in one undertaking. And now that the girls are older, I only have to do this about once a year. About a year and a half ago, I attempted to turn over the girls' closet in one afternoon. Let's just say that it was not a pretty ending. Come 6:00 PM, I felt nauseous and Rich arrived home from work to find clothes strewn all about.

I do try to pull out too small clothing items and set them aside for my niece, Maggie, and charity as the clothing becomes too small. More recently, Grammy has convinced me that some items aren't small enough and are okay for the girls to wear around the house. With Anna starting preschool next month and wearable size 3T clothes hanging around the house, ready to be worn, I decided to add this project to the top of my very long to do list.

And then Sunday, I came downstairs from my nap (Rich slept in, I napped after) to find the girls dressed in outfits that were way too small. Rich agreed but said that after he dressed them and realized that the clothes were too small, he wasn't about to search for alternates and he figured it would be okay for the day. It was. Until we decided to go to Kohl's. And then I decided that I really didn't feel like wrangling three toddlers into different outfits.

Here is Allie modeling her floods.

Okay, so the outfit doesn't look that bad in that picture. You'll have to trust me.

I have been having the girls try clothes on here and there when they cooperate so I can start packing up what is on the small side. Here's a sample of our size 3T collection.

I also have a sizable pile upstairs to go through as well. I then need to organize and pack up the size 4T clothes I have started to purchase on clearance. I like to stay organized when it comes to their clothes so I can keep track of what we have and what we need. Plus, it drives me insane when I am looking for something and can't find it!

PSA: If you can guesstimate what size shoe your little ones will be wearing next winter, be sure to check out the clearance section of shoe departments. I picked up three pairs of boots for next winter (or the winter after that) for the girls. All three were originally priced at $39.99 each. I only paid $5, $8 and $15. Thankyouverymuch. It is a bit easy for me to do this because the girls are all wearing different shoe sizes now. Allie is squeezing into a 6. Em is about a 5.5 and little Anna is barely a 5, although I have her wearing size 5.5 sneakers right now.

Oh, just for reference (I guess) here is what size the girls are wearing now:

Shirts: 24 months to 3T

Pants: 2T (a bit on the long side) (We also use smaller sizes as capris when we can.)

Dresses: 2T to 3T

Skirts and shorts: 12 months to 3T

hee, your listing of the girls' sizes makes me smile, because my (singlet) daughter is very tall for her age, and at 14 months is wearing 24 months/ 2T. But she has hardly any hair and still isn't quite walking on her own. It would be funny to see them together- kids who are about the same size at completely different stages of development.

I put my girls' clothes in those same bags and just got my 18-24 mos. stuff organized. I always love going through the bags and being reminded of some of the deals I picked up months before.
In case you need winter things, Lands' End clearance section has toddler snow boots right now.
Hope you enjoy great weather this weekend.
