Hyannis Harbor, Cape Cod

Vacationers travel from all over to visit Cape Cod, known as "the Cape" to those of us who live here.  It's practically in our back yard, so each summer I ask why we don't take advantage of how close we are.  And then I sit in traffic.  If you live south of Boston, it takes less an hour to reach the canal.  Usually.  Unless there's traffic.

So last weekend, with the girls' summer vacation from school half over, we decided to take what was supposed to be a half day trip to Hyannis.  We planned to take an hour tour of Hyannis Harbor, eat lunch and then find a new beach to "check out."  "Check out" in our minds means a visit of approximately an hour.  We left before 8:30 that morning, hoping to catch the 10:00 boat tour.  There was some traffic before the bridge but it wasn't horrific.  And then we hit Route 6, which was a parking lot.  We would move at 5 mph and then sit and wait.  With three kids needing to use the bathroom, we pulled off at exit 2 and discovered that an accident further up Route 6 was causing the traffic problems.  We ended up taking back roads to Hyannis and arrived at 11:00, which allowed us to take the 11:15 boat.  The two morning boat tours are free for kids, which is why we wanted to do that first.

LOL at Emily's snarl.  The girls enjoyed the tour as much as 7 year olds could.  They were a bit nervous at being on a boat in the ocean and they didn't like the rocking when we hit the wake of other, much bigger boats but overall, it was a success.
