Toddlers and tiaras

The girls are supposed to wear "stage" make-up for their upcoming dance recital.  Honestly, I'm not exactly thrilled at having to slap make-up on my 5 year old children.  They're practically babies.  I've told myself to get over it because there's nothing I can do about it but make a scene.  I keep repeating what another mom said.  The stage lights will wash out their faces.

I thought the girls would be excited to learn that they will be wearing some make-up (bright pink lipstick, blush and fill in the eyebrows some).  Hmmmmm, not so much.  Emily was a bit upset at first.  Say what?

A few days later, Emily seemed to have changed her mind about the make-up and started asking me when  I was going to put pencil in her eye.  "No, sweetie.  You don't put pencil in your eye.  It's a special make-up pencil and you put it on your eyebrows."  I was actually a little concerned that she may experiment with a lead pencil so I pulled out my make-up bag.

I don't have bright pink lipstick or pink blush and it turns out my pencil is too dark.  I laugh every time I look at their eyebrows.

I can kind of see what they will look like as adults.

It's true... the stage lights will wash out their faces... When I was in The Wizard of Oz,I had to do the munchkin's makeup (some of them were 5) and We had to do eyeliner and mascara. Not fun to put eyeliner on a wriggly 5 year old! haha We still managed to get it done! Best of luck to you and your girls!

Ive caught glimpses of that also, when I look at my 2 year old in a certain way I can almost see her face as a more grown up version...very strange. Your girls are darlings with or without the stage make-up :)

I grew up dancing and just had to walk my boss through this same thing when she was like "make-up on my four year old?!" I reminded her that she majored in theatre and that the lights would wash her daughter out. :)

Your little ones keep getting more beautiful. :)

The eyebrows are the best. What a hoot. They look so cute and seem to really have fun with it.
I rarely wear much makeup anymore but I have a lot of it. Sometimes my girls sneak into my stash and apply and oh, how funny they look. My oldest, 7, had me do a "makeover" on her. She looked so gorgeous and we did a photo shoot. My husband wasn't so happy about it because it was really dramatic, but it was all in fun. I totally saw who she'd be in a few years - bitter sweet.

I grew up doing dance and theater and having to wear make-up from a young age. I think it helped me skip over the pre-teen impulse to over do it with make-up. I think because of having to wear so much when I'm on stage it's made me have a less is more approach to make-up. And they'll be so excited when they have their make-up on and their hair done and are in their costumes! First dance recitals are the BEST!

So cute! I used to love when my mother put her makeup on me growing up (just when I played dress up) Great memories!

They are so gorgeous. I loved to play in my mom's makeup when I was little.

I didn't really like the idea of makeup on Cinderella either. She wore quite a bit when she had a little recital for the YMCA, which was not required, nor did any of the other girls have any on. I am sure she thought it was fun though. When I got her ready for her second recital, she requested make up and I did a much lighter version which seemed to satisfy her.
I love the pictures of your girls! I haven't seen too many of them all together and all smiling. So Cute! They are beautiful!

Sweet memories! They look like they're loving it. This will be so fun to look back at when they're teenagers. The black and white photo at the bottom of Allie (that is Allie, right?) with her little hand under her chin is simply gorgeous!

Wow they are beautiful! Not because of the makeup, but because of the huge smiles.

I should have noted that from left to right - Allie, Em and Anna.
