The maxi dress

As previously mentioned, the girls wear clothes until they no longer fit, regardless of the size printed on the label.  For the past year or so, their closets have been full of size 3T clothes and I've watched those clothes become smaller and smaller.  I was waiting for the weather to turn (for good and not just for a few days) before packing up those too small items.  Because of their birthday last week and my impatience with the weather, I began pulling items from closets the other night.

They wore size 12-18 months shorts last summer.  Too small.

They've been wearing size 24 months bike shorts to gymnastics.  Too small.

The girls seem to have an attachment to certain clothing items and freaked out a bit as they witnessed the pile of clothing grow on Allie's floor.  Em cried over the loss of her beloved chickie shirt.  She even hugged and kissed it good-bye.  If this is any indication of what the future holds, we are in trouble.

Several size 3T items still fit and remain in their closets.  Including Em's maxi dress.  And it always cracks me up when she refers to it as her maxi dress.  Such a little fashionista.  The other day, Rich was helping the girls dress and Em told Rich that she wanted to wear her maxi dress.  Rich, who was standing in front of her closet, said, "What does it look like?"  (Her summer dresses are still hanging on the upper bar, out of her reach.)  Em walked up and shoved a piece of paper at him.  "It looks like this!"

Yes.  She had a drawing of herself wearing the maxi dress.

The girls might like the book "I Had a Favorite Dress" by
Boni Ashburn & Julia Denos. I got it for Cinderella and she thinks it is a fun book. I clearly remember not wanting to pass my hand me downs to my cousin when I was little. It is hard to part with a favorite piece of clothing!

Thanks for the heads up on that book. I'll have to check it out.

This may not be practical (not a mom yet) but can you save those "special" clothing items somewhere and turn them into a quilt when the girls are older? Maybe something like a t-shirt quilt? I realize girls may have a lot of "favorites" but I thought a quilt might be a feasible idea.

Sarah - I actually do save some of the special clothes and was planning on saving that chick shirt! I thought it would be nice when they are grown up to have some of their itty bitty clothes.
