ugh

So I was sick last night and today. It started with an all day headache yesterday and turned nasty in the middle of the night. I don't necessarily think that it's a virus - I think it's just me and my weirdness. Earlier today, I heard Anna tell Grammy that her tummy hurt a few times and now she is running a low grade fever. She also told me that her forehead hurt. Awesome. Whenever this happens, our immediate concerns are over her shunt or a potential UTI.

I told her that I would sleep with her tonight because I'm not going to be able to sleep in my bed while worrying about her.

Emily is finally sleeping in her bed alone. Mostly. Rich and I had a heart-to-heart with the girls over a week ago and told them that we couldn't keep running from bed to bed all night. That we need sleep or we are going to be too tired to do fun things. Like go to Disney. Or the beach or the zoo. This may not be the best parenting but it's the truth and it seems to be working.

Tonight, as the girls were grabbing their lovies* to bring upstairs, Allie said, "Elmo's last name is Freaking." That came out of left field.

*In our house, lovies are called buddies.

Sarah~ You both are doing a fabulous job. Them knowing that you need sleep (after 4 years) to function is good. They are at the age where they are able to understand most of it. Don't feel bad, your girls adore you both.

Hey, don't feel bad about telling your girls you won't be able to do fun things if you are running from bed to bed at night. Wanna know what I tell our girls will happen if they get out of bed/make me get out of bed at night? I tell them I will break their legs. Slowly. One by one. So trust me, you are still in the running for mother of the year. I, on the other hand, am doing whatever is in my power to prevent the authorities from finding my home and taking my kids away from me. ;)

PS - Obviously I am kidding. I wouldn't ACTUALLY break their legs, but they don't know that. ;)

Feel better soon, Sarah! Hopefully Anna is fine as well!

I love your heart to heart. And I don't think it's bad parenting AT ALL. You have to put it into terms that they can understand. And the truth is you WOULD be too tired to do fun things.

I have a son who will be 5 in April (same age as your girls I think) and he climbs into bed with us every night. We've begun bribing him with candies to stay in bed. I think the end justifies the means.
