Adjusting....

As I've mentioned before, my blog is not contemporaneous. Therefore, I am now sharing (a week later) pictures of Emily from last Sunday making some crafty crowns. In the first picture, I can still see sickness across her eyes. That was the first day that she was able to get up and do some normal kid stuff.

I haven't had too much time to play with my new laptop but I LOVE it so far. It is so fast and I'm addicted to the two finger scroll function. I am having a few start up issues though. I think that the monitor is really bright so when I edit pictures, they look fine on this computer but when I view them on some other computers, they look darker than I want them to. The pictures that I've edited on my old laptop look fine on this one. Hmmm. So I'm trying to adjust my editing.

Is there anyone out there with a Mac who can answer this question? When I pull photos from my camera, they go into iPhoto. My computer is automatically setting up some random file to save them in. I did go in and figure out how to set up folders. I like to save my photos by month. So now when I edit a picture, I save the edited versions in my new January 2011 folder. I think I need to move all of my pictures from the Mac created folder to the folder that I created. Does that sound right? And I still haven't figured out how to view photos from my January 2011 folder in iPhoto. Thank you in advance to anyone who has some answers or explanations.

The girls were awesome tonight with bedtime. Allie kept asking me to sit with her "for a minute." I ignored the question. She then asked me to tell her the story of the little girl who didn't get stickers (and therefore did not get a prize at the store.) She stopped asking me to sit with her after I told the story. Rich and I are now going to attempt to watch The Town, which we were supposed to watch New Year's Eve. Exciting activities around here, folks.

I have a Mac (and love it!!!). I also happen to be a computer nerd...hopefully I can help!

So, you plug in your camera, and it starts downloading onto iPhoto automatically, right? Does it save it into an "event", like "January 2, 2011"? If it does that, then your pictures will be sorted by the date you took them on your camera. So, while you might have uploaded a week's worth of pictures at once, you'll have 7 "events". You can drag them into one event, and then change the name to January 2011. As you keep uploading pics, you can keep dragging the different events into January 2011 until you need a February 2011 folder. I hope that helps...

Actually, if you go into "Finder" (it's a picture of a two-shaded blue rectangle with a face), you can search for that folder Mac created. Once you have located it, don't open it. Just click on the picture of the blue folder (it might be a different color for you) and drag it into an open iPhoto. You should see a green plus sign. Combine the Mac's folder and your folder by dragging one on top of each other.

As for viewing the pics, I think I understand what you are talking about. Is your January 2011 folder IN iPhoto? If it's saved on your Desktop, drag it into iPhoto. You can also "look" for your folder by clicking on the magnifying glass on the top right corner of your Mac. Search January 2011 and hopefully they'll show up. I'm wondering if they're saved through Finder...in that case, select all the pics at once and drag them on top of your iPhoto icon on the bottom of your screen.

Please ask if you have any questions! Hopefully I got it!

I was going to give you an answer, but I think Alice answered it better than I would have. Most likely your folder of pictures is listed as an event with a date when you launch iPhoto.

Love my mac too!

Woohoo for a hopefully peaceful movie night!

How do you make those hats? They're adorable!

perhaps i don't understand what you're asking well since I am going to answer differently from the other person. regardless, you'll learn a cool trick...

(you won't be in iphoto for this) click on your desktop to bring that to the top. open a "new finder window" from your top menu bar. find the pre-made "picture" folder and open it. inside you should see "iphoto library;" RIGHT click on this and choose the option "show package contents." a new window pops up, and in it you will find (among many other things) 2 folders: "Modified" and "originals." THIS is where things hide in iphoto.

another cool trick, you can have your photos open directly from iphoto into PSE to edit them. with iphoto open, go to "iphoto," drop down to "preferences..." and then chose the drop-box labeled "edit photo" and change it to PSE--the default there is "in main window."

I think that your girls cannot possibly get any cuter, then I see Emily in her paul frank shirt, tutu, adorable little leggings, and pink crown.

Thank you, thank you!!! I was able to make an events folder and merge!

Helen - those crowns are just construction paper - you make it curly by rolling on a pencil. I think the full instructions were in a Highlights magazine.

Absolutely Adorable Pictures! I have an IMac and Mac Book Pro as well and simply adore them. I think Alice, the first to comment, has the right answer to your question. Again, your Girls are Beautiful and you've got a gift with photography, SO Good!

Thought of your monitor issue when I read this post. Not entirely sure it matches up, but maybe?
