Evening "sun haze" portraits

I always want to practice, practice, practice with my camera. I had been wanting to take some portraits in what I call "evening sun haze." Do you know what I am referring to? It's when the sun is really low in the sky right before sunset begins.

Unfortunately for me, my opportunties for practice are limited. We need to be outside when the sun is in the correct position. If I am inside and try to bring one of the girls out, the other two want to follow and then it becomes a big production.

And I need a three year old who will cooperate.

For these shots, I placed Em with the sun behind her in order to avoid squinty eyes.

Sometimes she is so serious.

Here is my absolute favorite of the bunch.

I gotta tell you that the five focal points on my Nikon D50 are absolutely driving me insane. Do you know how difficult it is to focus on the eyes and then recompose your shot and *hope* that your three year old does not move?

I have to throw in that I was so excited tonight when I went over to Trendy Treehouse and found that my photo of Allie on the beach placed third in their vacation photo contest. Yippeee!

Yes the sweet light! I love when I can catch it on the top of my daughter's hair, but I agree with trying to get a toddler to stay still. Congrats on Trendy Treehouse!

Hey! I just wanted to tell you, I have been reading your blog for a while now! It's my highlight of the week, waiting to hear something funny and witty about YOUR week, or just a beautiful photo of your girls. I even went back on some previous posts, and your photography has improved a lot! I still can't tell them apart, though. I think it would be a fun idea to do a post showing us how we could tell them apart... though that may be hard for you... because you know them inside and out and they are already individuals. I just want to say you are a great inspiration... and that I'm reading your blog and everything (wow, this is long!)
