Let's talk gymnastics.

The girls are officially enrolled in a parent/tot gymnastics class at a local gym. Rich and I did have the choice between the parent/tot class or the beginner/transition class. The gym has a minimum age requirement of three years for the beginner class and the girls were two weeks shy of three years old but seeing as they have never participated in any activity such as this, I thought that the parent/tot class would be a good start.

Now, I have no expectations that the girls will be future Olympians. Of course, I would be thrilled if they display some natural talent but I really just want this to be fun for them right now. I want to open doors so that if they do enjoy this activity and want to pursue it in the future, they can. That being said, I sadly realize that there is only so far for Anna to go. I am dreading, absolutely dreading, the day that she can't do an activity because of her physical limitations.

So being the fashionista that I am, I questioned Rich regarding the phone conversations he had had with the gym because I wanted the girls to be dressed appropriately. Rich looked at me like I had two heads. What they should wear had not even entered his mind. I checked with my work friend, whose daughter started gymnastics at a young age, and she predicted that there would be a mix of t-shirts/comfy clothes and leotards. She was correct except that the leotards were dancing leotards not gymnastics leotards. Did you know that there was a difference? Well, there is and the leotards for gymastics are much more expenive.

For the girls' first class. I dressed them in too-small onesies (size 18 months that were packed up after they were washed) and leggings. I decided to not spend $100 on gymnastics leotards and opted for the $6.99 ones from H&M instead.

You can't see it in the pictures but there is a short ruffle around the waist.

And proof that there is non-cooperation for photos. (Grammy had to take these last two as I was working hard to bring home the bacon.)

And because someone may ask or wonder, I always wanted to take dance and gymnastics when I was little but I don't recall ever asking my parents if I could. I guess I just did what they told me to do. Plus, there weren't too many organized activities/sports way back when. (Don't forgot that I am old.) So instead, I played town Little League and then softball because my parents signed me up for that. Yeah, awesome. The only bright spot to that was being short, my strike zone was small and I was walked a lot.

I know that there may come a day when one of the girls may want to play soccer or T ball. {Sniff, sniff.} We'll cross that bridge when we come to it. For now, they are enjoying gymnastics. Although, I should mention that it makes Grammy nervous as some parents think that this is a "let your kids run around unattended" class and Anna has almost been jumped on twice now. I told her to tell the kids in a nice, loud voice that they need to be careful and wait their turn.

Interesting. I didn't know there were dancing leotards and gymnastic leotards and that there'd be quite a price difference!

$100 for a child's leotard?! I guarantee those were not the kind of leotard I was wearing 25 years ago in my gymnastics class. Wow! If there were kids wearing t-shirts, then dance leotards would be just fine, I would think.

Fun! I am doing gymnastics with my twins (and older sister) and it is really great. The parent/child one is great for us. I am lucky that our place is small and sometimes my girls are the only one in the class, so we have LOTS of teacher time (and she can help with one of the girls while I am with the other!).

I did softball as a kid too, and loved it, so I do hope my girls get to do something like that as well! But anything very organized and team-like is WAY beyond us yet, ha ha!

Cat - it would be approx. $100 for 3 of them.
