My little baby is going to...

PRESCHOOL!!!!!!!

We just found out this week that Anna was accepted as a student in the public preschool under the special education program. This means that she will receive some much needed physical and occupational therapy. She will start attending next month, which is going to be quite a shock for all of us. I had given up hope on the school accepting her into the special education program and assumed that I would have to enroll all three of the girls as peer models, which means that they wouldn't be in a classroom until September.

It does appear that we will not have to jump through too many hoops for Allie and Em to begin as peer models in September. Anna does seem excited and I think this will be good for her.

I do have to admit that I just about lost it when her teacher handed me a laminated name tag to tie to her backpack. Her backpack? She's just a baby. She doesn't have a backpack. It was a bit of an "aaaawwwww, my little baby is growing up" moment, especially thinking about how adorable she is going to look walking around with a little backpack.

Here's my mini-me!

Awesome news! They grow up so fast.
In case nobody told you, most people with spina bifida should not care a heavy backpack because it is hard on the back. At this age you should be okay as long as it is loaded lite. However, eventually you will want to go to a rolling backpack and in some school systems that requires a doctors order. Some to talk to her doctor about...

Your girls are adorable! I just found your blog and have enjoyed reading through it. My daughter Annabelle has SB and hydrocephalus.

Yes, they grow up very fast! Good luck with your families new adventure.

Congrats on the news! I am not sure what state you are in, but I have some experience with special education law and parent rights. Please let me know if you ever need any advice or information.

That is wonderful news! Although I know it will be very emotional for you to send her off for her 1st day with her backpack. I hope her sisters handle the separation alright as well.
