Three toddlers, three rooms

We have made the definite decision to separate the girls into their own bedrooms. The decision was somewhat finalized after listening to Em yell, "Wake up, Anna," after Anna fell asleep before Em did the other night.

Rich's brother-in-law is going to finish off our basement so that we can move the office and the guest (Grammy's) bedroom down there. When the girls are older and we no longer need to have an active guest bedroom, that area will become a playroom.

I've already started telling the girls where their new bedrooms are going to be and how we are going to take the sides off of their cribs and they are going to sleep in big girl beds. I'm not sure if I'm really preparing them for the big change or myself. Because it will be a big change.

I want their new rooms to be fun as well. Not just a room with a bed and some stuffed animals which is basically what their room is like now. I had some ideas for decorating it but just never had the time to actually follow through. Last week while shopping in Target I came across girly bedding that is a knock-off of Pottery Barn Kids at a fraction of the price. You better believe I purchased the entire owl collection for Allie's room.

I've decided to make Em's room a ballerina room. There is an indent where a small closet would be if that room were to be listed as a bedroom. I'm going to hang tulle in front and make the inside a girly fortress. I've already started to accumulate ballet/dance wear as well. (I think I'm going to have as much fun as they are with this stuff.)

I haven't fully decided on what to do with Anna's room. I think I may pick up some little chairs and a little table at Home Goods and make a tea party type of scene. I definitely need to find some wall decor as well. I have an idea in mind - I just need to find it!

So hopefully their rooms aren't so much fun that they refuse to stay in their beds. This whole moving to big girl beds thing is freaking me out a bit. I'm fully expecting to wake up to Em next to my bed in the middle of the night. Every night.

And just a cute story from tonight. Rich wasn't home so Grammy and I gave the girls their bath and put them to bed. Allie and Em were sitting on little stools in their room clean and in their jammies waiting for story time to begin. After Grammy released Anna from her hair combing session, Anna walked over and said, "Hi guys." Em was like, "Hi, Anna." It was the cutest exchange EVER. And it reminded me that they are growing up so very fast.

They are a wee bit expensive, but I would think totally worth it!

LOL LOL - the whole waking up in the middle of the night with a small person staring at you... we always laugh about how that's going to be SO SCARY!!!

And what fun it will be to decorate their rooms! Kid rooms are always the most fun rooms to decorate. Have fun! Good luck, I hope you find everything you've imagined. :)

Wow what fun ideas you have for decorating their rooms! Expect the forst night to be no sleep after you convert their bed. They will lay in there for a little while and be up and down the rest of the night so excited that they can get up.

Do they mostly use their rooms just for sleeping? You might want to consider jsut keeping the rooms pretty utilitarian or you could really end up with them all night playing since they'll be able to get out of bed. The ideas do sound really cute though.

I hope this helps with some sleep issues for you all. I shared a room with my two sisters when I was in high school and that was hard enough. Must be infinitely harder with little ones!

My daughter just turned 3, and has been in a toddler bed for months. She shares a room with her big sister and has always been a horrible sleeper... but we don't have trouble with her playing in her room instead of sleeping. Instead, she escapes to come find us!

Your ideas for the girls' rooms sound SO cute. I'm excited to see how it turns out! I can see them using their rooms as a little village, with a ballet studio, cafe/tea room, and park/forest. Where are you going to keep their clothes? I'm assuming they still share undies, socks, jammies... and I know you have lots of coordinated outfits that I think you said you hang together in their closet...?

I'm curious because 1) our boys still share all their clothes at 5, and 2) our youngest has all her things in a hall linen closet. Do tell!

Sounds like a good plan to me! I've had my trio in separate rooms since they were 6 months old. I don't regret it one bit. Good luck with the transition to toddler beds. That thought scares the heck out of me! Luckily, we aren't there yet.

Anon - LOVE those but expensive, yes.

They do play for a bit in their room around bath time. I would like for them to be able to play upstairs.

All of their clothes will stay in the big closet. They will still share that :)
