Furniture shopping with Britney Spears

Rich and I have pretty much decided to purchase new bedroom furniture for ourselves. Throughout my childhood and until I moved out of my parents' house while I was attending college, I had the same set of bedroom furniture. I'm fairly certain that it wasn't purchased new either. At 21 years old, I bought my first bedroom set and 17 years later, those pieces are still being used in our house.

As much as I love Pottery Barn, I cannot justify spending that amount of money. Especially when I'm not screaming, "I LOVE YOU. I NEED TO HAVE YOU," at anything. So off we went to the local furniture store to see what they had.

This is what Anna insisted on wearing to the store. My only issue was that the shoes are Allie's and clearly too big. After she shuffled through the store, I told her that she wasn't allowed to wear shoes that don't fit again.

She reminded me of Britney Spears from the Oops, I did it again days and so I called her Britney during our shopping excursion. "Come on, Britney." "Watch your step, Britney."

As for the furniture, I found something acceptable but we didn't make any final decisions on the spot. On our way out, we breezed through the section full of kids' bedroom furniture. Oh, my goodness! I couldn't believe how expensive that stuff was.

Looking at furniture had me thinking of redoing the girls' rooms, which probably won't happen for a few years. I have a few magazines full of ideas for kids' bedrooms and I made the mistake of giving them to the girls when we arrived back home. I don't know why I did that (I thought they would get a kick out of it) because I know better. I really, really do. I know that kids don't understand waiting. They expect everything to be instantaneous.

So of course, Emily found a pink princess toddler bed in one of the magazines and wanted it. Now. For the remainder of the day, she asked when we could go back to the store to get her bed. I tried to explain to her that she didn't need a bed, especially not a toddler bed. {Sigh}

She brought the magazine with her to bed that night and this is how I found her sleeping.

Allie. Just because.

And Anna. Just because.

A few days after I took these sleeping pictures, I was showing other pictures that I had taken on my camera and I ended up scrolling to these. You should have seen the look on Anna's face. "Oh, yes, Anna. Mommy takes pictures of you while you are sleeping." And I play with your toys too.

So cute! After months of looking on craigslist I found a nice bedroom set for our girls. We need to make some headboards though as the set did not come with 2 matching ones. But when we looked at the sets in the different furniture stores we were shocked how expensive they were!

Your girls seem like such characters! So silly and funny.

Furniture is crazy expensive. That is what IKEA is for :)

I just have to laugh! My daughter has those cupcake pjs too and LOVES them. She lives for laundry day so she can wear them that night!
I think you have posted on this before, but how do you photograph the kiddos sleeping without waking them up? I am too scared to try :)

Aw, what sweet sleeping babies. My favorite pics of my daughter are of her sleeping. (Also the easiest to take, since she isn't squirming!)

We've had really good luck at Jordans. Great prices. Great quality. Lots of Made in the USA choices. Plus the delivery guys are always so pleasant and punctual.

Hi, I found your blog from http://actionjacksonandthetwincesses.blogspot.com/2010/06/hes-just-not-that-into-me.html. tanya and i are in the same MOT group. Your girls are absolutely beautiful. I have 2 1/2 year old twins and an older son that is 10 1/2 months older. Most times people think I have triplets. I can't even imagaine what it must be like having triplets! I read your girls' birth stats and was amazed. They were bigger than my twins and there was 3 not 2. They were born around the same gestation. I love your photos too!

I wish you had an email reply with comments... but I wanted to thank you for the nice note. This has me terrified since I'm TOTALLY out of my comfort zone and feel like a Mom with a fancy camera pretending to be a photographer. I'm trying to push through my fears and hope to gain confidence as the process progresses.

To be honest, I keep expecting you to go Pro since you are a natural lifestyle photog and make it look so easy!!

Thank you everyone for the comments and a big welcome to my new readers!

Jen - we just bought bookcases from IKEA!

Beth - I swear the only time my kids are heavy sleepers is right after they fall asleep - and they do so with the lights on. I keep the lights on to take the pictures and use my Speedlight. No one has woken up yet!

Christi - we did go to Jordan's! 1/2 of our furniture is from there.

Tracy - No way. You will be (and already are) awesome. I don't know how to edit.
