Playroom

I finally finished (six months later) the curtains for the playroom.

If you are new to sewing, these type of curtains are a super simple way to add a splash of color and design to your room.

I really need to figure out what to do with all of the girls' hair accessories. Our downstairs bathroom is also our laundry room and there is no extra space. The girls' bathroom upstairs doesn't really have any space so that leaves their bedrooms. I have two concerns. 1. We do their hair downstairs which means additional trips upstairs for hair accessories or so the girls can pick out hair accessories. 2. If I place everything in Allie's room, is there going to be drama?

I do know this. I need to get it out of the playroom.

Ribbon barrettes on ribbon.

Almost an entire shelf in the playroom full of hair stuff.

I really need to organize that room. (Along with 10,000 other things.)

Those of you with girls - what do you do with all of the hair stuff?

Have you thought about an over the door shoe organizer? One friend has hair thingies on a bunch of ribbons...

I made a cute little butterfly ribbon for the barrettes and a basket for the ties...

I took an empty picture frame and glued ribbons on it to clip things to to. I keep it in the playroom. There is no way I am going up and down the stairs to do hair.

My little one doesn't have very many hair things but I keep them in a small hatbox in her room. Maybe a large hatbox would work for your girls' hair accessories? Not sure how you would keep them organized though, if that's an issue.

Hairbows for one girl is a lot, so I can only imagine three! We have a basket (oval/oblong in shape) on the back of the toilet full of ponytail holders and loose ribbons/headbands. We have bows with barrettes hanging on a bow organizer in the room.
The shoe organizer sounds like it would work and keep everything tidy. Good luck!!!

Well, I have twin girls but I have always cut their hair - they never have had hair below the chin. Now they are 3 and want Tangled hair (just like your girls!) so I am letting it grow.

Still, they rarely use more than two hair thingies each on any given day, so we simply don't have as much of it as you seem to. Are all those in daily use?

I have a tiny dresser-like organiser which looks like this:

...and that suffices for our daily use. Fancy stuff I place together with jewellery and such :)

I only have 1 kid with enough hair for hair accessories right now and it's all in her top bureau drawer, organized by one of those drawer type organizer thingys (http://www.target.com/Drawer-Organizer-with-3-Compartments/dp/B002QW15TA/ref=br_1_23?ie=UTF8&id=Drawer%20Organizer%20with%203%20Compartments&node=14034461&searchSize=30&searchView=list&searchPage=1&sr=1-23&qid=1312809869&rh=&searchBinNameList=subjectbin%2Cprice%2Ctarget_com_primary_color-bin%2Ctarget_com_size-bin%2Ctarget_com_brand-bin&searchRank=salesrank&frombrowse=1). It has 3 compartments: 1 for hair ties, 1 for barrettes and clips, and 1 for soft headbands. I try to get her dressed (which takes for-ev-er now that she chooses her own clothes) and ready upstairs so we're ready to go by the time we come downstairs.

Our brushes are in a drawer in our bathroom where the girls can reach them. The water sprayer is on a high shelf so they can't reach it and our clips/headbands/elastics/etc. are in a basket, again, up high so they can't reach it. I used to have everything available in the same drawer but there was ALWAYS a mess.

Here's an idea for organizing headbands and other accessories that I found on another blog:
http://organizingmadefun.blogspot.com/2010/11/we-did-it-kids-project-for-organizing.html
You'd still have to dig for things inside the container, but maybe if you found a couple round containers that fit inside the oatmeal container, you could separate out the elastics from the barrettes from the clips, etc.
This would be an awesome project for the girls to help out with!

What about a clear plastic shoe organizer thing with pockets on the back of the door? You could see through so it'd be easy to know what's what. And it wouldn't take up extra space. I am not speaking from experience, I have boys, but I use shoe organizers for their shoes in the closet and we used them for infant toys.

Thanks everyone for the comments and suggestions. I had forgotten about the shoe organizer thing. I had been thinking of doing some ribbon things as well.

Mamma Sol - the girls have a Grammy who makes barrettes and they have received hair accessories times 3 as gifts. It's been at least 18 months since I purchased anything - oh, except for some headbands. That's why we have so much.

I'm late on this one, but google "bow board." I got one as a shower gift when I was pregnant with my girls. We LOVE it - it hangs in their closet. You seem pretty crafty, too, so you may be able to make one? Ours is pink and green. (I've seen a bunch on Etsy, too.)

I saw your blog on Top Baby Blogs and I spent some time at work yesterday reading through your posts. Your story stayed with me all through my train ride home and even as I was chopping vegetables to prepare dinner. I told my husband about your story, and peppered him with questions about Spina bifida. I just want to tell you that you are amazing and strong. I look forward to follow your journey, and good luck.
