Gingerbread Cookies

I always thought that I would be a mom who would bake homemade cookies with my kids during the holiday season.

We would make fancy little baskets of delicious cookies for our family, friends and neighbors.

Hasn't happened yet.

Maybe next year.

Surprisingly, the girls asked to make gingerbread man cookies a few weeks ago. Well, technically they are gingerbread people.

Last year, they wanted nothing to do with gingerbread people cookies. I quickly decorated some for the girls at a holiday party last year and I think Em gnawed on a foot. That was it. Maybe they would have been more into it if they could have decorated the cookies themselves. I think probably not though.

Lucky for us, we found a kit at Target complete with fully cooked gingerbread people and all the fixings.

The girls had a blast and even ate some of their cookies.

I ate a cookie (or two) so I can tell you that they were pretty good.

Looks like they had a great time! I bought a gingerbread house kit at Target, with an assembled house and frosting and candies. I'm hoping that it turns out as well as these cookies did, nd that my two year olds don't eat too much of the toppings before they make it onto the house!

You're almot there. I was the same way about cookies, and this is the first year (at 5) that they've had the patience. Keep with it! It's worth it.

such cute faces...i believe that we had the same pajamas last year (they are pretty unisex, don't you think?) but no way would they have been able to wear them length-wise this year. see, a great benefit for smaller kiddos!!!!! (i am assuming that you did not buy them ahead in size for this year, that is)...:)

Looks like you had fun. Premade cookies - my idea of perfect activity. My 6 y/o is asking to make a gingerbread house - off to Target I go. She made cookies last week, we opened the tube, baked and decorated them. She was not feeling well and we kept joking about giving my family strep throat via the cookies at our family christmas party. guess who has strep throat. I had to throw out all of the cookies.
My twin 2 year olds have never baked cookies - premade (my area) or from scratch (that's my husband's territory). Maybe when they are a bit older. We have the good intentions.
