Labor Day Weekend
We never know if this will be our last beach weekend. It's still quite toasty here but that can change overnight. Plus, life activities build up once school begins and time away isn't so practical.
The seaweed looks creepy here.
We drove down to the cottage Saturday morning and met up with friends of ours. After an early lunch, we all headed to Nauset Beach. There have been a ton of shark sightings all over the Cape these past two weeks. So much so that officials are concerned because lifeguards are no longer posted at beaches, or if they are, beach-goers are swimming out with seals, etc. once the lifeguards have left for the day. It's all fun and games until someone gets bit by a shark.
There were no shark sightings at Nauset Beach during our afternoon visit. A woman struck up a conversation with us in the parking lot while the kids were changing clothes. She said she had asked the lifeguards about sharks and was told that it was a "quiet" day. Rich had thought about going in for a swim but when a seal popped up close to the shoreline, he decided against it.
That evening we headed to Hyannis for a pizza dinner followed by ice cream. Of course. The weather was absolutely perfect on Saturday and even better that night. That was the best night of sleep I've had down there all summer.
Sunday, we met up with some members of Rich's family, who had been down for the week. Another nice day, although the humidity crept back in there later on.
These signs are now at beaches were one would never, ever expect to see a shark in the past. Awesome.
We decided to go to Sesuit Harbor Cafe for dinner because we hadn't been there at all this summer. It was packed. They have picnic tables outside (there's no place to eat inside) and it's a popular spot due to the tasty lobster rolls and BYOB. The girls and I were able to grab a spot at a table while Rich got in line. He was in line for an hour.
So we waited.
And waited.
And waited some more.
But it was worth it in the end. Thankfully, the food didn't take too long to arrive.
Afterwards, we drove over to Cold Storage Beach to watch the sunset.
The next photo is a super crop so you can read the name of the boat. Serenity Now! We have found our people!!
It was overcast/foggy and very humid on Monday. We sort of putzed around in the morning and then headed home mid-afternoon. I walked down to the beach with Emily and Anna. It definitely feels like the end of summer.
We would love to finish painting before the cottage gets shut down for the season. We shall see if that actually happens.
