I've said it before and I'll say it again, I don't know that I could ever live far from the ocean.  (And maybe, specifically New England.)  Yes, we battle frigid cold temperatures and unforgettable winters but the beauty that surrounds us is amazing.  The landscape just a few hours north is quite different from the coastline we're used to visiting.  It's much more rugged and rocky.  The water a different shade of blue.  I would have loved to have spent more time outdoors but due to the Arctic blast that had descended upon us, we were somewhat forced to remain in the car.  I sort of fell in love with the Wells Beach area, that combination of beach, shingled cottages and mom and pop motels.

All of the photos here and those in my post from Thursday were taken with my new 35mm lens.  I went with the Sigma Art line again and thus far, I have not disappointed.  Similar to my 50mm lens, the 35 is quick to focus and tack sharp.  One of the first things I noticed was how vibrant and realistic the colors are as well.  In other words, the lens exceeds awesomeness.

See that last photo above.  The houses in about the middle of the photo.  I've cropped it so you can see how the detail still remains even after you zoom in.

I also cropped it into this long panoramic but I can't post it here because it won't fit.  I had my wide angle lens with me and wanted to use it for a different perspective but it was just so freaking cold outside.  When we would stop, I would jump out of the car, take some photos and jump right back in.  I didn't want to go through the process of changing my lens and getting out of the car again.  Too cold.  (And maybe I was lazy.)  I'd like to get back up there in the near future with the girls.  Allie did request that we wait for warmer weather.  You got that right!

You make me want to visit. I have not been to Maine since I was a child. The magnificent home in the second picture - is that an Inn or a private home? I want to see it in person :)

We were lucky enough to stay on Fourth Cliff at Scituate and visited the cape from there, then went on to Maine. After 2 years in Texas and 4 years in Arizona, this Brit who lived close to the sea loved them both. Now lucky enough to live ( not back home) but on an island off the coast of Washington - stunning scenery and the sea, oh how I love the sea.
